4th Grade Energy Conservation Posters
Fourth graders conduct a school-wide energy survey each year to help our school improve our energy conservation efforts. In small teams, students visit offices and classrooms to identify ways in which energy can be saved.
Light Switch Labels
Many light switch covers at DES have reminders to turn lights off, but several classrooms, offices and bathrooms were missing them. In an effort to encourage DES staff and students to turn lights off when leaving a room, students checked light switch covers for "Turn Me Off Please" stickers and add them as needed during the Winter of 2016.

Energy Monitors
Classrooms throughout each grade level at DES have student jobs like Electrician, Computer Monitors, Smartboard Monitors, Light Helper or a Caboose who turn out lights and/or computers when leaving the classroom or when not in use.
Energy Saving Tips on Morning Announcements
Each day during Earth Week 2015, the student lead news team read an Earth Friendly Tip on the morning announcements. Tips included reminders to close the refrigerator door, remembering to turn off lights, computers, televisions and other electronics, use rechargeable batteries, and to look for window leaks with a ribbon.
