Arbor Day Tree Planting and CelebrationsArbor Day is celebrated yearly at DES. Dominion Power distributes loblolly pine and/or eastern redbud trees to each 3rd grader on an annual basis. In 2013, all 4th grade students celebrated with May Day activities including a tree planting. Representatives from the Department of Forestry explained how to prevent erosion and then helped students to plant trees on a hillside near the school field. During the May 1, 2013 May Day activities, other grade levels were invited to participate in the celebration with a self-guided activity in the DES courtyard. See the e-mail included in the document that was distributed with an explanation of how to plant 2 types of pots, one with geraniums and one with a redbud seedling and an herb. |
